Electrotherapy treatment is a fast, effective and safe treatment for internal haemorrhoids (piles).
We have partnered with eXroid to offer their unique technology to our patients, due to it being a low risk and highly effective treatment for haemorrhoids.
Many patients report minimal or no discomfort during and after the procedure and there is no need for anaesthetic, cutting, heat or stitching, meaning no time off work.
Appointments (including diagnosis and treatment) can take less than an hour, so you can fit your appointment conveniently around your life.
A gentle current is applied to the base of the haemorrhoid for up to 10 minutes.
Usually there is more than one haemorrhoid to be treated. Up to 3 can be treated at one time.
eXroid Electrotherapy is a largely painless procedure with patients experiencing only mild discomfort, usually associated with having a proctoscope (a narrow plastic tube) inserted into the anal canal to allow the doctor to see the piles.
When the current itself is activated and slowly increased, various symptoms have been described such as a low abdominal ache, a desire to pass water (patients are advised to use the bathroom before treatment for this reason) and other peculiar sensations, but usually no significant symptoms.
Patients are free to go back to work/normal activities immediately after treatment. We recommend a short rest from strenuous activities that may interrupt the recovery period.
Following treatment, there may be bleeding from the bottom, which is more likely if there has been recent bleeding from the piles. Some patients will experience sensitivity of the skin on their left hip for up to 48 hours following treatment, where the saline soaked sponge pad rests during the eXroid treatment.
Other side effects and complications are very rare or have not been reported, but could include more prolonged discomfort or pain, an external thrombosed pile, infections, scarring, strictures or perforation of the bowel.
